Registered Engineers for Safe Gas Appliances
Avoid gas leaks and carbon monoxide poisoning with regular checks by our registered engineers
Our homes have many gas appliances that need regular checks to avoid serious accidents. Whether residential or a landlord managed property, these checks should be carried out once a year by a registered engineer to ensure your safety.
If you have the following appliances, they should be checked regularly:
1. Gas Hobs
Gas hobs can start to leak gas if not checked regularly. Whilst gas is not poisonous like carbon monoxide (CO), leaks can lead to fires or explosions. You can tell if your gas hob is leaking gas by the smell which you can smell if there is a leak.
2. Gas Boilers
Gas Boilers need to be legally checked annual for rented properties, so we would also advise the same for residential properties.
Gas leaks from gas boilers can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is extremely dangerous as it is colourless and odourless gas and so undetectable without a gas test which is why it is so deadly.
3. Gas log burners
Gas log burners have become more popular in built up residential areas where there are more clean air requirements. A leaking gas log burner can be a silent killer as it is emitting carbon monoxide. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) recommends that the appliance and flues are checked by a registered engineer once a year.
